Immune Boosting Drink

The past few winters I’ve been really proactive about trying NOT to get sick instead of trying to treat colds once they hit. One of the things that has really helped me is this hot drink. I jokingly refer to it as “healing tea” even though it’s not even tea. My sister has pneumonia last year and I took way too much credit for her healing after giving her this drink. It’s a great immune system builder! It’s also great for your metabolism if you drink it first thing in the morning (which I frequently forget to do). It includes apple cider vinegar, which can be a little bitter (especially alongside the lemons) but you can adjust the amount of each ingredient according to your taste preferences. It kind of “burns so good” when you put a lot of it in the drink. You can just feel it cleaning everything out as it goes down. If you’re not into the whole “burns so good thing” then just include a smaller amount of it. When I feel like I might be coming down with a cold, I make a big batch of this and heat it up to drink all week.

Here are some of the many benefits that experts claim that Apple Cider Vinegar provides:

-Relieves cold symptoms

-Lowers cholesterol

-Improves skin

-Reduces blood pressure

-Regulates blood sugar levels

-Enhances weight loss

-Boosts gut health

-Enhances circulation

-Relieves acid reflux

-Aids in detoxification

1/2 of a fresh ginger chunk (peeled)

1 lemon, juiced

2 1/2 cups of water

1 shot (3 T) of apple cider vinegar

1/4 t ground turmeric (omit if you don’t like it)

*Note, you can add some honey to sweeten it if you want!

Place the water, lemon juice, turmeric and chunk of ginger in a pot over medium/high heat until it is boiling. Reduce heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes. Add the apple cider vinegar and stir to combine. Let it cool and then drink.
