Gift Guide-For Your Dad/FIL

Click on an image above to shop.

Today’s gift guide is for your dad and father in law. For the record though, my 29 year old husband owns and loves a bunch of these items so I think that they are applicable for men in general. I included a few of my dad’s favorite things in this guide. If you’re dropping a hint for someone in your life, please send them the direct URL for this post or copy and paste one of the words next to the number below.

  1. Sneakers: My dad was sending us texts in our group chat multiple times about how fan-fu*****-tastic these sneakers are right before his passing. We even buried him in them because he was so passionate and excited about them. My husband has them and says that they are not designed for exercise but are good for everyday wear. They are really breathable so your foot doesn’t get sweaty.

  2. Pillow: This is such a great pillow. Its really the pillow for everyone because it has an inner layer that you can remove if you want it to be thinner. It was designed with a lot of special technology to make it conform to your head and neck in the best way.

  3. Speaker: This device is so awesome! We have one and love it. I really like how this one has the brass/brown details at the bottom. I think that it gives it a cool and masculine edge. In addition to using it for music, its great for setting timers, asking about the weather, asking facts, setting reminders, and so much more.

  4. Steam Grill Cleaner: This gift is awesome for the grill master. It is a grill cleaning brush that involves steam to get it extra clean! I couldn’t have a dad gift guide without a grill item!

  5. Cooler: This cooler bag is the best there is. It’s perfect for bringing some beer to the beach or a tailgate. It can also be used to transport food I guess haha.

  6. DNA Kit: 23 & Me is such an awesome gift for a parent. It’s so interesting to find out all of the results. We got it for my dad last year for Chanukah and found out some really interesting facts about his, and therefore my, heritage. It’s fun for them to get and share the results with everyone as well. It’s all so easy to do. Plus, if you’re giving it to a birth parent, then you will also learn things about your own DNA.

  7. Cologne: This is the greatest cologne. Its actually unisex and designed with special science to smell good on and adapt to everyone. It’s worth the price tag.

  8. PJ Pants: These are the softest and most incredible feeling PJ pants in the world. Both my dad and husband have had and loved them for years. They are thin and lightweight so they aren’t like other pajama pants that people who get hot while they sleep hate. They feel like butter!

Gift Guide-For The Cozy Girl
Facetune_05-09-2018-16-53-38.jpg

Click an image above to shop.

Look, I may not know how to change the oil in my car or how to get most places in the world (the saying ‘directionally challenged’ was coined for me) but I do know a thing or two about coziness! After all, they don’t call me the Cozy Curator for nothing! I really value soft things, loungewear, amazing smelling candles and more. This is truly the ‘cozy girl’ survival kit. These items are really great for women at any age! If you’re dropping a hint for someone in your life, please send them the direct URL for this post or copy and paste one of the URLs below.

  1. Weekend Sweater: I have a “Sundays” t-shirt and seriously wear it every Sunday. Its so nice to have special weekend cozy-wear that you look forward to putting on. Plus, you can pair this with some faux leather leggings and cute booties and have the perfect outfit for brunch in the winter. It’s currently on sale and priced so well!

  2. Candle: I get this scented candle every single year and LOVE the style that they are offering this year. It is the BEST smelling candle and gives off all of the cozy, winter scents. It smells just like a balsam tree (but in a subtle way that does not smell artificial) combined with other wintery scents. The amount of compliments that I get on the scent of this candle is absurd.

  3. Pearl Embellished Pullover: This is the pullover that I’m wearing in the photo! The pearl details on this add a dressier element to what is really just a comfy sweatshirt. Its thin/lightweight and is perfect with joggers or leggings. It runs true to size.

  4. Robe: The softest and coziest robe of all time. Perfect for cold winter days! It comes in so many colors.

  5. Set with Lace Details: I need this set! Feminine loungewear that makes you look dressed up when you’re anything but dressed up is where it’s at! I love the “color” and lace details!

  6. Blanket: This is the blanket version of that robe. It is insanely soft. Its basically an adult baby blanket and so comforting! It comes in a ton of colors.

  7. Slow Cooker: This is the best slow cooker/crockpot of all time. I know I’ve talked about it before but that’s because my obsession with it is REAL. The inside of it is all-clad so you can use it on your stovetop, in your oven, and in the slow cooker. That means that you can brown your meats, garlic, whatever on the stovetop before starting your crockpot recipe and only use one pot the whole time (life changing). It also has a steam function that I use ALL THE TIME! You can even cook rice in it. Its truly an ‘all in one’ device and perfect for every cozy meal!

  8. Fuzzy Half-Zip: I posted this last year and people went crazy for it. I call it a ‘wearable blanket.’ Its the warmest and best thing. Its perfect to throw on when you’re cold at home or even as a fleece when you’re out running errands and what not. Its currently on major sale and will sell out soon so get on it! Multiple people told me that they got it for their moms last year and that they loved it so its really a perfect gift for everyone!

Gift Guide-For Him

Click on an image above to shop.

This year I enlisted the help of Mr. Cozy (aka my husband aka Jay) for the Men’s Gift Guide. It was fun to work on it together and I am hoping to loop him into more posts on here soon ;) Like with the other gift guides, we kept the list small but powerful. We made sure that every item is a knock out of the park! I included descriptions as well as some of Jay’s insight in the descriptions below. Guys, if you are looking to drop a hint to someone in your life, just copy and paste the URL to this post and email it over to someone! If you send a link from the post, please copy the URL with the description below so that the gift giver purchases directly from my special link that gives me ‘credit.’ Happy gift giving!

  1. Sunglasses: Jay says that sunglasses are always a good gift because you wear them so much each year that you end up getting sick of them. Plus, in the summer he is committed to wearing sunglasses that match the vibe of his bathing suit, which I would hate on if I didn’t secretly appreciate and love it so much ;) These are SUCH a good price for polarized sunglasses. They are classic but still cool.

  2. Casper Mattress: Jay actually works for Casper in logistics and we both are gigantic fans of the mattress. Seriously, it changed my life and I struggle a lot sleeping anywhere without it. Its perfect in every way and such a steal for the price. I thought that it wasn’t going to be a good match for all of my specific requirements with my back injury and yet it somehow is. Jay thought of this for the gift guide because the gift of restful sleep is honestly the best. Its perfect for the holidays because it arrives in a box so you can actually wrap it and put it under the tree and no one would suspect that its a mattress (its crazy that it fits in such a small box)! If you’re giving this gift to someone who you share a bed with then it will also be a gift for you!

  3. Catchall: Jay’s catchall is great for his own organization and for our marriage because his wallet and other ‘loose’ items from his pocket go in one organized spot instead of on our counter. We both hate clutter and like when things have a ‘home.’ This one is so nice because its monogramed and manly. I got Jay one a couple of years ago for the holidays and he still says it was such a great gift.

  4. Fitness & Sleep Tracker Ring: I didn’t even know about this until Jay suggested it for the gift guide. It’s the same concept as the fitness and sleep tracking bracelets but is a ring. I think that it looks much cooler than the bracelets! Its not even obvious at all that its a tech ring. It syncs with your phone and comes in multiple colors.

  5. Jacket: This faux shearling lined jacket is the perfect amount of edgy and ‘normal.’ Plus, it was created by Justin Timberlake and who doesn’t want to be rocking something that makes you as cool as him?

  6. Backpack: This is my personal favorite gift on the gift guide. I have the women’s version and it changed my life. Its SO lightweight, has great compartments and pockets, is easy to wipe off/clean, and best of all has a slip on the back of it so that it slides on the handles of a suitcase. Its seriously the best feature for traveling. I just throw mine on the handles of my rolling carryon and it stays so securely on the handles. Instead of Jay having to carry a backpack and push his rolling carry on (in addition to mine), he could just slip this on the handles and have it all in one. Its amazing for everyday use and in replacement of a briefcase as well! Its pricey but worth every penny.

  7. Bar tools: Every man needs a good set of bar tools. Jay takes great pride in his bar equipment. I hooked him up with all of his tools for a birthday gift one year and it was definitely one of the best gifts I ever got him.

  8. Boots: Who doesn’t like getting a fresh pair of boots for the holidays? Jay loves Chelsea boots because they instantly dress up any outfit but are still casual. These just scream ‘handsome.’

Holiday Decor 2018
IMG_0860.jpg

It’s that time of year to ‘deck the halls.’ Holiday decor is my favorite because its the coziest! Give me some twinkle lights, furry blankets, and delicious smelling candles and I’m good to stay on my couch. I basically married a Christian person so that I could finally put up a Christmas tree and decorate my apartment with furry stockings and all of the Christmas vibes. I am a bit of an ornament addict and could seriously do damage buying decor for my tree. I definitely have some Chanukah touches in our apartment as well (proud Jew here) but there just aren’t as many options out there. I found the coolest menorahs and Chanukah decor in the game though and linked it at the bottom of this post. Have fun getting in the holiday spirit!

Gift Guide-Carly's Wishlist 2018

Click on an image above to shop

Last year, by the time that I actually got my gifts, many of them were sold out and I couldn’t share them. This year, I thought that I’d be ahead of the game by sharing my wishlist as my first gift guide of the season. Granted, some of these items are purely fantasies and I won’t actually be getting them but its still fun to dream! If you’re looking for some gift ideas for yourself then jot a few of these down or send the link for your post directly to someone’s inbox as a hint! If you’re shopping for a woman, then definitely keep these options in mind! As always, I really appreciate if you purchase via the links (copied directly from right below here) that I provide and checkout within a few minutes of adding them to your cart so that I can get ‘credit.’ Thanks so much!

  1. Gucci Bag: I mean, isn’t it a beaut?! Its perfect for this time of year. So elegant while still being casual.

  2. Sneakers: Every year I ask for a new pair of sneakers because I desperately need a refresh each year. I LIVE in my sneakers and wear them every.single.day. These make you feel like you are walking on clouds. They are so great for your joints and are so lightweight. I think they are worth every penny and as a bonus win, they’re currently on sale. Sometimes I have to size up in sneakers but these run true to size for me.

  3. Faux Leather Coat: I have seen this coat so many times and wanted it and then watched it sell out. I’m not going to kick myself for not asking for it any longer so I’m putting it on my wishlist this year. It has a detachable hoodie! Plus, the price is great.

  4. OTK boots: This brand is so great for anyone with foot, knee, back or other injuries. It’s also just awesome for anyone who is looking for comfortable shoes and really, who isn’t?! I have OTK boots with little heels that look cute but really aren’t comfortable or good for endurance. I’ve been needing a pair of flat, more comfortable OTK boots for years now but haven’t wanted to pull the trigger on the price tag. However, this brand make the price tag worth it because they are quality so this year I’m asking for them as a gift.

  5. Air Fryer Toaster: I’ve been wanting an air fryer and so many people have been telling me how much I need one. I eat cooked vegetables 9 times out of 10 when I’m eating veggies and I’ve heard that the air fryer makes it so easy and quick to make them. However, I’m pretty sure my husband would leave me if I buy another kitchen tool with no plan of where to put it in our kitchen. I can’t stand to have one more appliance on the counters and our cabinets are full to the brim. This option is the perfect solution because its a toaster oven and air fryer in one! We would be able to get rid of our current toaster oven and replace it with this option.

  6. Jacket : I’ve been eying this parka for years now. I thought that the regular sizing (even the 00) ran big when I tried it on but by the time I went to ask for it last year, the Petite sizes were sold out. This year, I think that I’m going to ask for a Petite in the grey. I heard that its really warm and it looks nicer than most of my other coats.

  7. Blowdryer: I got this blowdryer for my mom last year and have used it and LOVE it. She then got it for my sister because she loved it so much as well. Now, I’m left out and really wanting one. Its lightweight, does such a good job, makes your hair so smooth and works quickly.

  8. Boots with Fur Detail: My single best purchase of last winter were these boots in tan. So much so that I’m asking for them in this darker brown color, which I think is a little dressier. They are so comfortable, have great traction, are perfect for snowy conditions, and are warm without being overly hot to wear. I seriously couldn’t rave about them more. They run true to size.

Find Someone Who Holds Your Hand
FullSizeRender.jpg

Find someone who will hold your hand in pre-op, get choked up while expressing gratitude for your doctor in post-op, and drive you home from the hospital in a snow storm (that felt more like the apocalypse) while you yell and cry out in pain for hourss. Find someone who will help you get dressed in your ugliest sweatpants in the most gentle manner. Find someone who looks at you like you hold the whole moon in your tiny hands when all you really hold is your wedding band from him, your beloved dad’s wedding band, and an IV for your (small in your book of experience) surgery. Find that person and hold onto them like they ARE the moon in your tiny hands because they will impact your crazy world in a way that only a moon could. #FromCarlysHeart

Holiday Cards with Basic Invite
IMG_5541.jpg
IMG_5559.jpg

Can you believe that it’s already the time of year to order your holiday cards? I made mine on Basic Invite this year and thought that the process was really seamless. I feel like whenever you try to create something with photos and text, it becomes a disaster but I found the process to be really easy. I also liked that they had plenty of ‘alternative’ options besides the traditional red and gold choices. I like to choose cards that are still ‘on brand’ with my style and I appreciated that I was able to do that. We’re not an ultra traditional couple so I was glad that we were able to create a card that didn’t feel super classic or traditional. They have almost an unlimited variety of color options, so that was super helpful! We are a mixed religion household so keeping it ‘neutral’ is important to us. That being said, Basic Invite has plenty of traditional options as well. They also have cards with beautiful foil details, which I LOVE. They also have cool and retro holiday cards as well as awesome holiday party invitations! Check out the best Christmas cards!

In the interest of keeping it real, I had a hard time when I saw my cards. I created our holiday cards the week before my dad died and when I came back to my apartment for the first time following his death, I had these waiting in the mail for me. It felt absurd to read the words ‘Joyful’ splashed across the top of my cards. It is the opposite of how I have been feeling ever since and I have felt weird about sending them out to friends and family with all that’s been going on. However, I decided to try and look at them as a reminder to choose joy whenever and wherever we can. There are so many reasons to let Joy escape our lives but we can’t let it fully do that. Even while living under the crazy weight of this grief, I know that I still need to find reasons to smile and laugh, even if they are just a tiny drop in the bucket of tears. I know that this holiday season will be extremely hard. I know that there will be a million reasons why I find it to be extremely painful. I also know that I need to open my eyes as wide as I can so that I can seek out any bits of joy that may be scattered around in the midst of the sorrow. When I can’t find it, I know that I will need to create it…even if its just in subtle ways like having a cozy night by the tree with my husband watching a movie. So, this card that I created may not currently speak my truth since I am not ‘Joyful’ but I will hang it up with the reminder to create any tiny shreds of joy that I can and I hope that you will find plenty of reasons to be joyful during the holiday season.

If you are looking to create awesome holiday cards or holiday party invitations, make sure to check out Basic Invite. You won’t be disappointed with the selection! They even offer an address capturing service to make the whole process easier on you. They are running a ton of promotions this holiday season so make sure to check the website for their current promotion. At this moment, they are offering 15% off everything with the code 15FF51. Happy Holidays, friends!

NFL Gear
IMG_0227.JPG
IMG_0566 (1).JPG

One of my greatest life hacks: Buy t-shirts and loungewear with your guy’s favorite sports team on it and he’ll instantly think you look hot. Bonus points for all parties involved if you don’t wear a bra. I’m not about to buy tacky ra-ra sports gear though so I am always selective with what I buy. This is my favorite retailer for both men and women’s sports gear that’s actually cool. The only downfall is that Jay and I have a couple of very similar Eagles shirts so we have to make sure that we don’t twin. Although, I’m down to twin because corny stuff just doesn’t embarrass me but someone just isn’t as cool or down ;)

Last night we went to the Eagles versus Giants game where the Eagles game through with a win! It was Jay’s birthday present and I loved seeing him light up over watching the game in real life. We are Penn Staters and are insanely impressed by Saquon Barkeley (I don’t have the best knowledge of football and he blows me away still). It was pretty ideal to see Saquon tear it up but still have the Eagles win.

Here are some of my favorite women’s and men’s NFL items this season. They sell items for teams beyond those pictured in the image shown.

IMG_5523.JPG

Who else is feeling burnt out from the constant negative news? I dread reading it every day because there is just so much to be sad about in the world. That’s why I love also spending time each day focusing on happy things that are going on in the world! Knack, a really cool online retailer, is doing just that with a new national holiday. The National Spread Joy Day is this Thursday, October 11th!

My Workspace and Tips for Working From Home
IMG_0315.jpg

Who else works from home? It definitely has its share of advantages and disadvantages. The top advantages for me include no commute time, having access to your kitchen, being able to wear sweatpants and most importantly, being able to lay down flat on my couch while working. It is challenging to stay completely focused on work, set boundaries for your work day, and some other things as well when you work from home. I have found that having a designated work space is so helpful for me! I am sharing my work space in today’s post as well as linking the items at the bottom of the post. Full discloser..I removed my printer, printer paper, and books before taking these photos because printers are ugly haha. I have a pile of cook books and travel magazines at the corner of my desk as well.

If you also WTH, please share your top tips in the comments!

My Tips for Working From Home:

  • Have a designated work space! I lay down while I work the majority of the time because of my back injuries but its still so crucial that I have a desk to organize everything at! I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and while I would LOVE to have an office, its just not realistic. I made sure that I still set up a significant work space (with shelves and drawers for storage), even though its right in my living room. I also don’t have a kitchen table (no space) so having a desk to do work was vital. It took me forever to find one that I loved and fit right in the exact amount of space that I have and I was thrilled when my hard work and research paid off. It’s a children’s desk (that I got on sale) and works perfectly for me because it also matches my coffee table. My desk items are linked at the bottom of this post.

  • Keep your work space clear and non-cluttered. Even if your work space is your living room, keep it clean so that your mind can focus better. If everything is a mess around me, my brain feels scattered.

  • Put on a talk show or podcast in the background while you eat your lunch. Working from home can get isolating and lonely and I think that engaging your mind in something other than work for a short lunch break is necessary to stay (slightly) sane haha.

  • Pile all of your chores into one portion of the day. I don’t know about you but I find that the most distracting thing is doing chores. There are things all around me to get done. Since I feel better after I check a lot of chores off of my to do list (plus its better for my back to do physical things early in the day), I try to get them over with in the morning. I even prep dinner in the morning!

  • Set boundaries for working hours. This is a hard one for me! I am still really struggling with it and need to get better at it. I generally am trying to stop my work day when Jay gets home from work, which is usually pretty late anyways. I think that this is the hardest part of working from home because there aren’t clear enough boundaries and it feels like your work seeps into all aspects of your life.

  • Get out of the house! Get out of the house at one point during the day for sanity purposes. I also find it helpful to go to another space to work at least once a week (I got to my lounge in my building but you could go to a coffee shop). I would do this more frequently because I find that I’m more productive but I need to work laying down a lot.

My Achilles Heal
IMG_1373.JPG

After every weekend I spend with my niece & nephew, I fall into a pit of increased pain that pulls open the wound of my fears for the future. I have made true peace with all that I’ve been through in the past; my accident, my surgeries... But my fear of how I can mother through this pain is my Achilles heal. The thing that I have ALWAYS wanted most in life is to be a great mother. I think that I’ve wanted babies since I was a baby myself. It’s the thing that I have always felt destined to do more than anything. And I just know how hard this pain I live in will make it. All of my best assets for parenthood will be rung through this mucky water of pain. You see, I’m a very patient and sunny person and I dig deep to keep that the case (even while in pain) but something happens in your brain that just makes it (and a million other things) SO much harder. I’ve already given up my dreams of working with kids in a career but I couldn’t even fathom giving up the dreams of having my own. I know that I’ll figure it out and do the best that I can when the time comes but damn, it’s heart wrenching. You see, if it takes me days to get back to my baseline pain level from a weekend with 2 kids AND 2 other adults, how can I do it every single day (and on my own). I want to give a shoutout to all of the parents who have illnesses and injuries that make just getting out of bed feel like an impossible task some days...you are truly my heroes! I know that one day I will dig deep and just do my best just like you bravely do ❤️#FromCarlysHeart
